Cambodia Candlelight Memorial Day 2011

I and my colleague got up in the early morning and went to HACC's office in order to prepare some material for event. This is a picture took last year when all below people joint Candlelight Memorial Day at Phnom Penh. I was happy to do that. I wish to have a new time also. 


We are working for reducing HIV/AIDS in Cambodia. We are still promoting Human Immunodeficiency Virus all over the world. Today, this evening I will join it again with my colleague and other resource coming from different place over Cambodia at 4 PM so that we can talk more about HIV.


Started in 1983, the Candlelight Memorial Day takes place every third Sunday in May and is led by a coalition of some 1,200 community organizations in 115 countries hosting local memorials to honor the lives lost and raise social consciousness about HIV. 

The Candlelight Day is also much more than just a memorial. It provides opportunities for leadership development, policy advocacy, partnerships, and improvement of community mobilization skills. 


HIV/AIDS Coordinating Committee (HACC) closed collaborate with other individual vulnerable group networks, such as Cambodia People living with HIV/AIDS Network, Antiretroviral Users Association, The National MSM Network (BC), Women's Network for Unity, Cambodian Community of Women living with HIV/AIDS, and Cambodian Alliance for Combating HIV/AIDS, organized this event on May 25, 2011 at Pich Pon Raing Sey Pagoda called Wat Chen Dam Dek, Phnom Penh City under the theme of "Quality of Care, Quality of Life"


Mr. Tim Vora, representative of HIV/AIDS NGOs said "Just as we continue to honor the memories of those who have died from AIDS with this Candlelight Day ceremony, the HIV response needs ongoing commitment, cooperation and support at every level; from the Royal Government of Cambodia, to local authorities to local and international donors."


"National and International NGOs, especially direct authority of land living by HIV/AIDS villagers, help to improve freedom by omitting stigma and discrimination; furthermore, please continuing supporting both physical and mental to HIV/AIDS Person." Ms. Lak Sy, Representative of HIV/AIDS person requested.


This event opened and joined by Vice Mayor of Dao Penh District and mayor of Srach Choak Commune, including over 400 participants participated this event, those are: people living with HIV and AIDS, MSM, Monks, government staff, NGO staff, UN, Volunteers, Students, and public population at 4:30 PM and closed at 6:30 PM.
